Important voting dates
From the Rhode Island Board of Elections upcoming elections table and the Department of State 2026 election calendar guide.
- October 4, 2026: Deadline to register to vote for the general election. The calendar says registration must be made at least 30 days before the general election. The Board of Elections table lists this as 10/4/26.
- October 13, 2026: Deadline to apply for a mail ballot. The Board of Elections marks this deadline with a note that an asterisk indicates an unofficial proposed schedule. The calendar guide lists Tuesday, October 13 as the deadline to apply for a mail ballot.
- October 14 through November 2, 2026: Early voting and emergency mail ballot period. The calendar says this period ends at 4 p.m. on November 2.
- Tuesday, November 3, 2026: General election. The calendar says polls in all cities and towns open at 7 a.m., except New Shoreham, which opens at 9 a.m. Polls remain open until 8 p.m. A person eligible to vote who is in line at 8 p.m. may vote before the polls close.
- November 3, 2026, 8 p.m.: Deadline to receive mail ballots.
